Position Summary: Responsible for the technical operation and scientific oversight of the cytogenetics laboratory. Reports to: Director, Lab or Supervisor, Lab. How you’ll contribute A Cytogenetics Technologist who excels in this role: Receives and assigns accession numbers to specimens and logs the information into the computer system. Performs common cytogenetic testing procedures and reports test results including but not limited to chromosomal karyotyping and Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization testing. Performs and monitors quality control, calibration, and corrective/ preventive maintenance on equipment, instruments, and reagents/ tests. Maintains supplies needed for performance of tests. Participates in the evaluation and validation of new techniques/ instruments/ equipment and in research development of new procedures. Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students. Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. What we’re looking for Applicants should have a current ASCP or equivalent Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree (Preferred); Formal training in CPT and ICD coding (Preferred) Experience: 3 years as cytogenetic technologist (Preferred) Certifications: ASCP or equivalent registry More about UP Health System Marquette: People are our passion and purpose.
