Job Summary: Receives samples of cells to performs routine microscopic examinations of tissue and other materials to test for absence of or present abnormal conditions, bacteria, viruses, and other disease indicators. Job Requirements: Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in cytotechnology or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Preferred Master's Degree: Preferred Cytology experience: Preferred Licenses/Certifications: Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as Cytotechnologist (CT; ASCP): Required ASCP-Cytotechnologist (CLM) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (PATH-A): Required Essential Functions: Examines and detects the presence or absence of disease at the cellular level through handling biological samples, preparing slides, examining both gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides, and observing small changes under a microscope according to established procedures. Is able to identify and interpret cellular abnormalities and/or inclusions in cytological preparation. Reports and documents all abnormal or atypical cell structure to a pathologist for further examination. Inputs test requests and patient results into the Laboratory Information System. Participates in quality control to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations such as checking to ensure that all reagents and stains give the proper and expected values. Assures that all necessary supplies and equipment in the department are adequate to perform the daily functions Maintains technical knowledge in cytology and is able to process and prepare specimens for cytological evaluation by all applicable methodology. Supports and adheres to all company policies and procedures and industry safety standards. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
