Title: Cytotechnologist Job Type: Regular Company: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Department: Pathology Time Type: Full time Weekly Hours: 40 FTE: 1 Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Summary: Performs microscopic screening of gynecologic, non-gynecologic, and Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA) slide preparations, for the detection of precancerous and cancerous conditions. Provides assistance and adequacy assessment of Fine Needle Aspirate procedures. Identifies normal and abnormal cellular constituents. Evaluates specimens’ adequacy. Marks cells most representative of any pathologic process. Develops a diagnosis supported by cellular evidence in conjunction with clinical history and data. Enters diagnosis on gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. Records daily workload, hours worked, and hours screened which must always be in compliance with New York State and Federal regulations and with limits set within the laboratory. Obtains and records required medical continuing education. Maintains quality control records. Maintains procedure manual. Prepares fine needle aspirations on slide as requested by clinician. Performs a fast stain on site so that the cytopathologist can determine if the specimen is adequate. Processes cytology specimens. Performs the identification and preliminary sourcing of Flourescent In situ Hybridization (FISH) slides for subsequent Pathologist review. Solves problems in staining and preparation procedure; evaluates and implements new preparation procedures. Reports relevant cytology procedure information/results in accordance with departmental reporting procedures. Maintains confidentiality of patient records. Maintains microscope and related equipment and supplies. Seeks clinical history or data not included on requisition. Teaches rotating students, residents and/or fellows. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards. Enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature, and participating in in-service meetings and workshops. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed. Attends meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The starting hourly rate for this position is $31.99/hr with an additional geographic differential of $12.00/hr. This can include a full comprehensive benefits package. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience License Requirement 1. Possession of a full license to practice as a Cytotechnologist in the State of New York; or 2. Eligibility for full licensure as a Cytotechnologist in the State of New York. Education and Experience 1. Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology; or 2. Bachelor’s degree with a one (1) year course of study at an accredited school of Cytotechnology. NOTES: 1. As a condition of continued employment, full license eligible incumbents must obtain and maintain the full Cytotechnologist licensure in the State of New York within six (6) months of their appointment to this title. 2. Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
