Cytotechnologist – St. Vincent Medical Center Medical Office Building 2 Job Summary: The skilled Cytotechnologist is responsible for staining, mounting, and studying cells of the human body under a microscope to detect evidence of precancerous, malignant, and infectious conditions. The Cytotechnologist is responsible for performing a variety of complex laboratory test and procedures on patients of all ages according to established protocols. Essential Functions: Provides patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports Mounts, stains, and examines smears under a microscope to evaluate specimen quality and recommends acceptance or rejection to Pathologist Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety Classifies and distinguishes abnormal cell structures and reports abnormalities to Pathologists for further examination Documents data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into the hospital system for patient record Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required Other duties as assigned Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Science: Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Laboratory Sciences, required Completion of Cytotechnology Program, required Certifications: Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP), is required Experience: Three years of Clinical Lab experience preferred Skills & Abilities: Ability to work independently within a team and strong attention to detail Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-pasted environment Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner As a Mercy Health associate, you're part of a Mission that matters.
