At Lee’s Marketplace, the Dairy Manager is responsible for the overall operation, organization, and performance of the Dairy Department. This includes supervising daily activities, maintaining fully stocked and appealing displays, ensuring product freshness, managing inventory, and upholding food safety and sanitation standards. The Dairy Manager leads by example, providing exceptional customer service while driving sales and minimizing waste through accurate ordering and strategic merchandising

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Age Requirement: 18yrs+
  • Availability: 7:00am-6:00pm with necessary flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
  • Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
  • Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the store.
  • Lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.
  • Occasional use and climbing of step stools or ladders are required.

EDUCATION OR SKILLS:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Prior grocery store or retail experience preferred (1–2 years in dairy or perishable departments ideal)
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (inventory systems, email, ordering platforms)
  • Strong knowledge of dairy products, shelf-life, and storage requirements
  • Excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to write, speak, hear, and understand the spoken word to respond promptly to pages, requests, team members, and guests.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in training and teaching staff.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills to address operational challenges.
  • Ability to implement solutions quickly and effectively.

  • Ability to handle team member, guest, and vendor inquiries and complaints effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all daily operations of the Dairy/Frozen Department(s) including product ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising to maximize sales and product quality.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels through accurate ordering and effective inventory control practices. Monitor product dates and reduce shrink through timely rotation and markdowns.
  • Train, supervise, and schedule dairy clerks or team members to ensure adequate coverage and efficient operations. Provide coaching, feedback, and performance support.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by answering questions, locating items, handling concerns professionally, and offering product suggestions.
  • Ensure department cleanliness and that all food safety, temperature, storage, and sanitation guidelines are followed to meet health and company standards.
  • Report inventory needs, maintenance issues, and team performance concerns to store leadership. Lead department and management meetings as needed.

Guest Service:

  • Greet customers warmly and offer assistance in locating or learning about dairy products.
  • Resolve customer complaints or product concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Provide recommendations and product knowledge to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Coordinate with guests in regards to special orders
  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked and presentable to support a positive guest impression.

Product Handling:

  • Assist in the maintenance of the displays throughout the store according to store standards.
  • Ensure product freshness by assisting with the verification of date coding on items and proper rotation of product.
  • Effective inventory control procedures through ordering and stocking of entire Dairy/Frozeb department(s).
  • Record all damaged product and rework or store in designated backroom cooler areas.
  • Ensure prompt return and receipt of credit on outdated or damaged vendor products.
  • Order, receive, and stock dairy/frozen products using proper rotation (FIFO) to ensure freshness.
  • Handle all products safely and according to food safety guidelines, including cold chain management.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts and shrink control.

Cleanliness and Safety:

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
  • Provides an example for other team members to maintain a clean and safe environment.

Department Financial Management:

  • Track daily, weekly, and monthly sales to ensure targets are met and identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement strategies to minimize product loss through proper rotation, handling, and accurate inventory management.
  • Create efficient schedules that align with sales forecasts and labor budgets, ensuring productivity without overspending.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records to control costs and avoid overstocking or shortages.
  • Ensure products are priced correctly to maintain profitability while staying competitive and in alignment with company pricing strategies.
  • Order Dairy/Frozen products strategically to meet demand and prevent excess inventory, while working with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
  • Review department financial statements, such as profit and loss reports, to assess performance and make informed decisions.
  • Contribute to annual department budget planning and help manage expenses throughout the year.
  • Monitor and reconcile department sales, shrink, and waste reports regularly.
  • Approve and oversee markdowns, discounts, and department promotions.
  • Train staff on proper pricing and labeling procedures to maintain accuracy

Team Collaboration:

  • Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
  • Promote a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication.
  • Provides a safe, clean, and positive environment and consistently builds and supports a culture that is based on relationships and continuous improvement.
  • Continually strives to build knowledge and skills, both personally and within the department and store through training and education of self and other team members.
  • Coordinates with the Store Director for the training of all team members involved with the dairy department to include trainers, assistant managers, department managers and clerks.
  • Provides a professional example for other team members to follow.
