Annual Salary: $61,152.00 - $64,252.50 Hourly: $31.36 - $32.95 Department: Police, Public Safety Division: Police Technology & Data Management FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Description: In this role, you will collect, analyze, prepare, and disseminate a variety of police data and crime information to identify the patterns, trends, and changes affecting policing in the City of Charleston, providing critical support in increasing the department’s efficiency and effectiveness. Examples of Duties: Acquires, filters and cleans data for reporting and analysis through database design and query building. Troubleshoots query issues and recommends changes in data gathering. Identifies data integrity issues and provides solutions to resolve them. Prepares and distributes reports, charts, publications and related material to track, display and explain findings and report on crime analysis activities. Performs a variety of complex professional analyses, including geographical mapping analyses, of relative crime information. Collects, analyzes, prepares and disseminates information relative to crime patterns to assist operational personnel in the police department. Coordinates analysis activities with other City departments and outside agencies. Responds to requests regarding crime analysis information relating to specific investigations. Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in computer science, mathematics, statistics or related field with strong statistical coursework. No professional experience is required, however practical experience or training managing large data sets, generating queries, and performing statistical analyses is strongly preferred. Valid state issued driver’s license. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Access, SQL, and ArcMap or similar GIS software. Other Necessary Requirements: May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
