The International Growth Centre (IGC) works with policymakers in developing countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth through path-breaking research. The IGC combines a set of programme teams across Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East with a network of world-leading researchers backed by a global hub at the London School of Economics in partnership with the University of Oxford. The IGC is majority funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
We have a fast-growing engagement with the Government of Zambia to support economic development by producing data, research, and policy advice focusing on key drivers of growth. Since the engagement’s start in 2021, we have helped inform multiple policy decisions and supported numerous dialogues with key policy stakeholders, helping make evidence a more central part of the policy lifecycle. Led by the Country Manager, the engagement includes a team of economists, data engineers, and operational experts.
To institutionalise the use of evidence in policy, IGC is supporting the establishment of the Zambia Evidence Lab (ZEL), a project spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, designed to enhance the use of data in policy decisions. ZEL will provide first-of-its-kind analytical expertise within the Zambian government to produce data-driven policy outputs. Based in Lusaka and reporting to the Head of the ZEL, the Data Analyst(s) will support the development of data pipelines, converting data into policy insights. The successful candidate will play a critical role in transforming raw administrative data into actionable insights, ensuring data quality, and developing visualisations to inform policy decisions.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• BSc or MSc degree in computer science, data science, economics, financial engineering, statistics or a related quantitative subject where working with large data sets to achieve causal inference formed a key part.
• Proven experience in data analysis, data management, and/or database development.
• Proficiency in at least one data analysis tool and software, such as STATA, SQL, R, and Python, and at least one data visualisation tool like Tableau or Power BI.

• Collect, clean, and integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency and quality while collaborating with the IGC Data Engineer(s) to develop automated data pipelines and maintain comprehensive metadata.
• Support data analysis and interpretation, develop dashboards using tools like Tableau or Power BI, contribute to research methodologies, and explore new technologies to enhance data processing.
• Ensure compliance with legal and ethical data standards while facilitating data-sharing efforts between ZEL, ZamStats, and other public institutions.
