The purpose of the Data Architect role at Endeavour Group is to actively support and lead the architectural direction for the Enterprise Data Program. This involves leading the design, development, and governance of scalable, secure, and high-performing data architecture, with a primary focus on overseeing, approving, and co-designing architecture artifacts to support Endeavour Group Limited's (EGL's) strategic exit from the legacy Woolworths data platform in conjunction with key vendor partners. This core endeavor is essential for establishing EGL's independent data ecosystem and supporting the Group’s strategic priorities across retail, hospitality, supply chain, and customer experience. Working cross-functionally with engineering, data governance, and business teams, vendor partners, the Data Architect plays a critical role in building a modern data ecosystem that enables innovation, enhances operational efficiency, and delivers seamless customer experiences. Job Description Lead Architecture for the Enterprise Data Program: Actively support and lead the architectural direction for the Enterprise Data Program, with a primary focus on the EGL exit from the legacy Woolworths data platform. Architecture Oversight and Governance (Migration Focus): Oversee, approve, and co-design critical architecture artifacts required to support the migration and separation from the legacy platform. Review, assess, and govern solution designs to ensure they adhere to architecture principles and best practices throughout the entire migration lifecycle, ensuring smooth and successful transitions. Strategic Collaboration and Alignment: Be a key contributor to the Architecture peer group, collaborating with other Data Architects and Enterprise Architects (EA) to ensure the Data Program’s architecture aligns with Endeavour Group’s strategy and roadmap. Standards Enforcement (SI Partner Focus): Partner closely with System Integration (SI) partners, internal teams, and platform groups to establish and enforce data standards and contribute to the development of guidelines focused on applications and products within D&AI’s scope for migration. Ensure all migration initiatives align with the overarching Enterprise Architecture to maintain consistency. Issue Resolution and Autonomy: Diagnose and resolve complex architectural challenges, addressing technical or operational issues that arise during the transition to the new architecture. Act autonomously to manage and resolve issues or deviations from established standards, ensuring alignment with project goals and architecture guidelines. Risk and Compliance Management: Collaborate with Data Governance, Cybersecurity, Platform teams, and Risk and Portfolio Offices to implement engagement processes, track issues identified during architectural assessments, and ensure they are properly documented in project and risk registers related to the various migration artifacts. Target-State Adoption: Support the successful adoption and industrialization of the target-state architecture by executing strategies for data systems, ensuring long-term architectural stability and alignment with enterprise goals and objectives post-separation. Principle Adherence: Ensure strict alignment with defined architecture standards and principles, promoting consistency in solution decisions across the enterprise and ensuring seamless integration with the new target architectures. Qualifications Core Architectural & Program Experience Migration and Transformation Expertise: Proven, direct experience working within complex enterprise transformation and data migration programs, specifically involving the separation or carve-out of data platforms, is essential. Data Architecture Experience: Proven experience in a Senior Data Architect role, ideally gained within large, complex environments or involving Master Data Management (MDM) programs. Retail/Domain Knowledge: Previous experience working within the Retail or Hospitality sector is highly regarded. Architecture Governance: Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant industry certifications (e.g., TOGAF) are desirable. Consulting & Influence: Exceptional communication skills coupled with a proven ability to negotiate, influence, and consult to provide authoritative advice to internal stakeholders and vendor partners. Business Acumen: Strong business analysis and stakeholder engagement skills to translate separation requirements into architectural deliverables. Data & Modeling Expertise Architecture & Modeling Development: Expert experience in the development of architectures and data models for complex systems across conceptual, logical, and physical layers. Data Engineering & Migration: Deep knowledge of data migration and engineering patterns required for transitioning data from on-premise source systems to modern cloud-hosted platforms. Database Design & Optimisation: Solid, hands-on understanding of database design, including conceptualisation through to database optimisation techniques. Specialised Experience: Experience in data/information management, advanced analytics, ML/AI platforms, and/or data services solutions. Technology & Cloud Platforms Cloud Focus: Direct and strong experience with multi-cloud environments, specifically GCP and Azure Cloud, is critical for this role. Database Technologies: Excellent understanding of traditional relational database technologies (e.g., SQL Server, DB2, Teradata) and modern cloud analytics platforms (GCP BigQuery, Azure Synapse, AWS equivalent). Delivery Methodology: Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments, with practical knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools and principles. Governance & Compliance Governance & Privacy: Comprehensive understanding and adherence to data governance policies and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, local Australian equivalents), ensuring consistent compliance throughout the migration. Personal / Professional Executive Stakeholder Engagement: Very strong stakeholder communications, with the ability to "read the room" (especially in senior executive forums) and tailor the message, ensuring alignment across business, IT, and SI/Vendor partners. Translation & Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to translate complicated technology solutions and architectural outcomes into plain business language and actionable advice, both in speaking and writing. Collaboration & Team Ethic: Strong sense of team, actively supporting the wider Enterprise Data Program team and celebrating successes, while maintaining a professional and collaborative relationship with vendors. Executive Presence: Strong presentation skills and comfort in front of large, senior groups (including C-level executives) to present and defend architectural decisions. Comfort and ability to communicate effectively in senior leadership forums is essential. Resilience & Crisis Management: Demonstrated problem-solving ability to stay calm and think on your feet in high-pressure situations, managing issues and ensuring project stability during the critical transition phase. Professionalism & Accountability: Self-motivated and able to manage multiple initiatives and conflicting priorities within specified timeframes. Treats all partners (internal and external) with respect and consideration; reacts well under pressure; is comfortable working with multiple teams, is aware of corporate happenings, and actively seeks help or escalates when needed to ensure the successful delivery of the data separation.
