About the Opportunity The Data Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing robust data architectures that enable scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions. This role focuses on data modelling, data platform architecture, and modern data engineering practices using Databricks and related technologies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data architecture principles, cloud-based platforms, and advanced analytics environments. Data Architecture and Modelling: Design and maintain enterprise‑level data models, define and uphold data standards and governance, and collaborate closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into optimised data structures. Platform Architecture: architect and implement scalable Databricks‑based data platforms in AWS, optimise data pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, ensure security and scalability across the data ecosystem, and enable compliance with enterprise architecture principles. Integration and Interoperability: design data integration strategies across diverse structured and unstructured sources, partner with data engineers to deliver ETL/ELT and streaming solutions and oversee ingestion and transformation workflows (including DBT) to ensure accuracy and consistency. Collaboration & Leadership: collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the architecture aligns with business needs and future analytics and governance use cases, while leading the organisation toward its target‑state architecture through technical guidance and mentorship. About you You’re an experienced data professional with a strong foundation in data modelling and metadata management, backed by a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Systems Analysis, or a related field. You bring hands‑on expertise across Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, and modern orchestration tools such as DBT, along with solid proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of Python or Scala for data engineering tasks. You’re confident operating within AWS environments, with an understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, and security, and you have a sound grasp of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks. Ideally, you also bring experience with technologies like AWS Redshift, Kafka, and API‑driven integrations, and may hold certifications in Databricks, AWS, or similar platforms. Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI and exposure to advanced analytics workflows is a bonus. The joint venture is a 40-year partnership where the Government retains ownership of VicRoads, and continues to control regulation, policy, data, and privacy provisions for VicRoads Registration and Licensing. The Government sets pricing and collects the revenue for essential registration and licensing fees, whilst also maintaining its roads and safety responsibilities.
