What would you do? Working closely with our other Data Center team members, you would assure uptime, build-out infrastructure and respond to client requests as part of operating a Tier 3 datacenter facility. As the on-site representatives for our company, we’re responsible for many of the physical tasks related to running a datacenter including the physical racking of devices, setting up networking infrastructure, asset management, hardware troubleshooting and repair, shipping and receiving, equipment preventative maintenance, site security, environmental controls monitoring and emergency escalation response. Our team is expected to regularly collaborate with Infrastructure and Professional Services teams to complete internal projects or external work orders. We are the engine that keeps the Opti9 services running!

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with computer and/or server hardware- building, configuring, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with networking concepts - routing, switching, LAN/WAN, networking hardware/topology, IPv4, IPv6
  • Experience installing and upgrading operating systems
  • Basic understanding of storage concepts – storage devices, cloud storage, storage provisioning, RAID configurations
  • Basic understanding of virtualization concepts – relationship between physical hardware and virtual resources

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED (with in-field experience) or a related college degree
  • Able to work on-site at our Garden City, NY location
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with both local and remote staff, teammates, and managers
  • Some formal training in the form of prior work experience or IT education classes is preferred
  • Analytical skills that allow you to create processes to make better days for you and your team
  • Ability to occasionally adjust work schedule to meet business needs (standard is 40-hour week that will include weekend days, occasional after-hours requirements in an on-call fashion)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to multi-task, change direction, effectively prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Able to clearly and correctly express complex technical concepts in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • The ideal candidate is detail oriented, finds it easy to work with others and contribute to team meetings and is a great communicator with both their peers and our customers.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a ticket queue of internal and external requests for support
  • Customer management and communication, responding to client ticket queue, calling customers to kick-off work or resolve issues, etc.
  • Internal communication with other teams to collaborate on projects and resolve issues
  • Support vendors on-site when they come to do work
  • Responsible for on-site security when our customers come to visit their equipment
  • Install cable pathway systems such as cable trays & cable racks
  • Install, cable-manage, test and label wired connections
  • Install and decommission hardware
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cabling and hardware issues
  • Oversee facility shipping and receiving, requires the ability to frequently move packages at 50 lbs+
  • Utilizing and auditing our asset management system to make sure all hardware is accounted for
  • Working with vendors to restock consumable inventory
  • Updating documentation regularly
  • Creating new processes to improve the efficiency of the data center team
