Responsibilities

Are you passionate about turning data into powerful insights and scalable solutions? We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our dynamic Data Team and help shape the future of data at Asda.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be a key player within one of our Agile data squads, working side-by-side with Product Managers, Visualisation Engineers, Data Analysts, and Data Architects. Together, you’ll design and deliver high-quality, reliable data products that fuel strategic decisions and drive real business impact.
But this isn’t just about pipelines and platforms, it’s about people and progress. You’ll actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, championing engineering excellence and sharing knowledge within our Agile Community of Practice.
If you thrive in a collaborative environment, love solving complex data challenges, and want to be part of a team that’s transforming how data powers retail, this is your opportunity.

Your Role (Key Responsibilities)

  • Design, build, and optimise robust data pipelines using PySpark, SparkSQL, and Databricks to ingest, transform, and enrich data from a variety of sources.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable and performant data engineering solutions, working closely with squad members and stakeholders.
  • Handle data in multiple formats (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) and manage data at various latencies – from batch processing to real-time streaming.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across the business to enable self-service analytics and innovation through well-organised and accessible data assets.
  • Ensure engineering solutions comply with architectural frameworks and best practices defined by Data Architects.
  • Actively contribute to our Agile ways of working, participating in ceremonies, retrospectives, and fostering a strong sense of team ownership and continuous delivery.
  • Contribute to the Agile Community, ensuring standards, practices and principles are built into everything you do.
