In this role, you will architect and maintain the pipelines and systems that ensure high-quality, reliable data flow across the organization. Working closely with software engineers, machine learning teams, and data analysts, you will ingest, clean, normalize, and validate data from multiple sources to support analytics and AI-driven decision-making. You will build transformation and validation layers upstream to ensure accuracy and usability for downstream applications, including reporting and ML pipelines. The position offers the opportunity to design foundational data systems, implement best practices, and influence the overall data architecture. Ideal candidates thrive in small, dynamic teams, embrace ownership, and enjoy solving complex, evolving problems with creative, scalable solutions. Accountabilities: Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines to ingest, clean, and normalize data from multiple sources, ensuring high quality and timeliness. Build and manage upstream transformation and validation layers for reporting and machine learning pipelines. Collaborate closely with software engineers, ML teams, and data analysts to ensure data meets operational and analytical needs. Implement monitoring, testing, and error-handling processes to prevent and detect data anomalies. Contribute to the architecture and long-term evolution of the data ecosystem, including cloud infrastructure and workflow orchestration. Mentor and guide team members on data best practices, modeling, and system design. Identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and performance improvements across the data stack. 5+ years of experience delivering data solutions in early-stage, high-growth startups, preferably in payments or fintech. Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP. Expertise in data modeling and SQL for structured and semi-structured data. Proficiency in Python for data processing and transformation tasks. Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Prefect, Airflow, Dagster). Familiarity with distributed workflow systems (e.g., Temporal, AWS Step Functions). Experience with cloud OLAP platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and query optimization. Knowledge of pub/sub messaging systems such as Kafka and scalable data ingestion patterns. Familiarity with data transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt) and validation patterns. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset for designing scalable, reliable systems. Competitive salary: CAD $130,000 – $170,000 per year. Flexible work environment with opportunities for remote work. Collaborative, small-team culture with high ownership and impact. Professional growth opportunities and exposure to cutting-edge data technologies. Inclusive and diverse workplace culture.
