Description

TITLE: DATA ENGINEER

Reports to: Data Team Manager
Department: Data and Insight
Hours: Full Time, 39.5 hrs per week
Location: Hybrid, Remote

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong expertise in SQL, including writing and optimizing complex queries across multiple sources.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, particularly in layered modelling and testing.
  • Practical use of Snowflake for loading, transforming, and exporting data.
  • Proven ability in designing and maintaining Airflow DAGs for orchestration of data pipelines.
  • Understanding of downstream BI tool needs (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and performance considerations.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to use advanced formulas, pivot tables and data validation.
  • Familiarity with data modelling and designing scalable, business-ready solutions.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and working with evolving technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and CI/CD in data projects.
  • Exposure to programming in Python or similar for data engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

ABOU THE ROLE:

We’re looking for a Data Engineer who can be central to this mission. As part of a small, agile data engineering function, you’ll work with a modern and continuously evolving data tech stack. Whether it’s ingesting new data into our data lake, transforming raw datasets into valuable insights, or making data accessible and usable for internal teams and clients, it’s all in a day’s work.
You will build and maintain scalable data pipelines and products using software development principles, while embracing and championing a DataOps culture across the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, maintain, and improve data pipelines across our modern data platform.
  • Ingest, transform, and democratise data using tools like dbt, Snowflake, and Airflow.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to design and deliver data products aligned to business needs.
  • Develop scalable and business-friendly data models to support self-serve analytics and BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Ensure all data is handled in compliance with Data Security and Protection policies and relevant standards.
  • Apply modern software development practices and lifecycle processes in data engineering work.
  • Contribute to, and advocate for a DataOps culture, ensuring reliability, agility, and automation across data workflows.
  • Collaborate with other tech team areas to solve shared data challenges and streamline processes.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 27001:2022, BS 10012:2017, ISO 50001:2018, and ISO 22301:2019.
