Description

We are seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and platforms that power our analytics and machine learning systems at Joybuy (https://www.joybuy.com/). Joybuy is JD.com’s European full-category online retail brand designed to bring customers a faster, more convenient, and cost-effective shopping experience. Offering same-day and next-day delivery across the UK, Joybuy combines speed, reliability, and affordability to meet the needs of modern shoppers. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure data availability, quality, and efficiency across international markets. This role requires strong technical expertise in big data processing, database management, and cloud platforms, with a keen eye for reliability and compliance in a global context.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement robust data pipelines and ETL processes to support analytics, reporting, and ML model training.
  • Build and optimise scalable data storage and retrieval systems to handle high-volume, multi-market datasets.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulations such as GDPR.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and product teams to deliver reliable, well-structured datasets for experimentation and decision-making.
  • Implement monitoring and automation to improve pipeline efficiency and minimise downtime.
  • Contribute to the development of the overall data infrastructure roadmap for JD.com’s global operations.
  • Work onsite in London, UK.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, big data infrastructure, or large-scale ETL development.
  • Proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Hands-on experience with big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Flink) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Familiarity with data warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Luigi).
  • Strong knowledge of data security, compliance, and governance frameworks.
  • Effective communication in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in e-commerce or consumer-facing platforms.
  • Track record of building data platforms in cross-border or international contexts.
  • Familiarity with real-time streaming frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Pulsar).
  • Effective communication in Chinese.
