JOIN THE NSW DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AS A DATA ENGINEER (CLERK GRADE 5/6)

Are you a data enthusiast with a passion for problem-solving and enabling smarter decisions through technology? We are excited to announce an opening for a Data Engineer to join DE International in Student Support and Specialist Programs directorate.

  • Location: Eveleigh with access to flexible working arrangements available
  • Salary: Clerk Grade 5/6 with base salary ranging from $99,938 to $110,271 per annum, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Ongoing full-time opportunity.

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline or extensive demonstrated experience
  • Experience in complex data engineering and utilising data warehousing technologies
  • Proficiency in analysis techniques and programming tools such as PySpark, Python, and SQL for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting
  • Extensive experience with the development, data extraction, and maintenance of structured and non-structured databases
  • Experience in building innovative stories in BI tools to identify and communicate business insights to support effective decision-making
  • Experience in using visualisation tools such as MS Fabric, PowerBI, SSRS or similar applications with advanced knowledge of DAX, M and PowerQuery
  • Experience in designing and delivering data engineering solutions with PySpark or Azure Data Factory (ADF)
  • Experience in working with student management systems and databases is advantageous
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold a current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for paid employment (or willing to acquire one)
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
