Description

ORBIS is seeking experienced Data Engineer will work with the Product Engineering team to create & implement the rapidly growing portfolio of technical products Orbis is bringing to customers. They will be responsible for building & maintaining data pipelines to support the whole data lifecycle of production, across projects involving AI agents, NLP ML, managing unstructured streaming data, dashboarding & application production, etc. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of data engineering principles and practices, especially regarding Google Cloud & Cloudflare core analytics products.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in data engineering; 7-10+ years preferred
  • Master’s degree in data science, computer science, or mathematics preferred but not required for this position

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Proven ability to analyze data and translate analysis into meaningful insights, especially social and traditional media data
  • Experience with GCP products such as Big Query, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, etc., including machine learning capabilities especially related to NLP
  • Experience with Cloudflare and/or large-scale data integration projects into edge-ready applications
  • Relevant programming skills such as Python, SQL, Java, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate large data sets into user-friendly formats for stakeholder use & into production applications, including mobile applications
  • Experience developing presentations and providing briefings to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong experience in data visualization

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience designing and implementing organizational or programmatic performance measurement strategies
  • Ability to analyze information and identify second-order implications to processes
  • Experience in qualitative research and program evaluation activities
  • Experience with change management
  • General familiarity with one or more of: natural language processing, transformer architectures, machine vision (object detection, facial recognition), one-shot learning, reinforcement
  • Solid background in statistics and/or mathematics, including an understanding of data sampling issues and bias measurement and mitigation techniques
  • Experience developing and deploying capabilities on an air gapped network

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Routine video conference and/or in-person meetings
  • Ability to attend planned meetings within the Washington Metro Area region and at overseas client sites

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines that ingest, store, and process data on GCP and between SaaS/PaaS ecosystems
  • Work with data & platform vendors to manage a wide range of product-led business activities and consulting projects
  • Provide and manage IAM & Security recommendations for internal environment and broker access controls throughout organization
  • Work with client and data science teams to provide statistical analysis, mathematics, computing models, machine learning, and programing to derive value from data
  • Build new workflows & data pipelines as client needs arise
  • Assist with stakeholder education on quantitative capabilities, helping them to understand strengths and weaknesses of different approaches and what problems are suitable and unsuitable for data science
  • Brief senior-level stakeholders & customers on data architecture patterns, activities, findings and recommendations
