Collins Aerospace is expanding our Data Platform and Cloud Engineering capabilities to support our growing portfolio of data-driven and analytics applications. The Data Services team is seeking a Data Engineer with deep expertise in API engineering, cloud-native application deployment, and Kubernetes and to help lead the evolution of our data and cloud infrastructure services. In this role, you will design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud/api infrastructure and application platforms. You’ll work closely with DevOps, data, and application teams to enable CI/CD, modern API architecture, and infrastructure automation in a highly regulated aerospace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen or U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.
  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering or DevOps roles with a strong focus on AWS and/or Azure.
  • Strong experience building and securing APIs, with knowledge of REST, OpenAPI/Swagger, and service meshes.
  • Expertise with Kubernetes (EKS/AKS), Helm, container orchestration, and GitOps workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go for scripting and automation.
  • Deep understanding of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting for cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and configuration management tools. Strong organizational, interpretation, problem solving, and time management skills, including strong and efficient multi-tasking capability.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Requires communication with executives in the business.
  • Highly motivated, and able to support Digital Technology efforts.
  • Attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience in agile methodologies and experience as a Data Engineer in a cross-functional agile team.
Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design and develop secure, scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Python or similar languages.
  • Implement API gateways, authentication (OAuth2, JWT), and observability for API endpoints.
  • Partner with application teams to modernize monolithic systems into microservices or serverless architectures.
  • Deploy, and maintain containerized applications on Kubernetes (EKS, AKS) using Helm and GitOps practices.
  • Support cloud infrastructure across AWS and/or Azure, ensuring high availability, observability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Implement observability best practices using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar.
