JOB OVERVIEW:

As a Data Engineer, you will be an integral member of the Business and Data Insights department, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data infrastructure. You will work with a variety of data sources and systems, support the development of our enterprise data warehouse, and enable advanced analytics through scalable data solutions. Your work will directly support operational efficiency, performance monitoring, and strategic initiatives across the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record in building data architectures, ETL pipelines, and working with data warehouses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and PowerBI
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases like MS SQL Server, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with dimensional modeling and Kimball’s methodology for building enterprise data warehouses is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing solutions like Snowflake, Redshift, or Big Query is a plus.
  • Experience with data pipeline tools such as SSIS or similar ETL frameworks.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and data cataloging practices.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling and data architecture best practices.
  • Transit industry experience is a plus.
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage data to develop solutions that address complex business challenges.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architecture to support enterprise analytics and reporting needs.
  • Interface with various databases and data sources, understand schema and data flows, and ensure efficient data integration.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the enterprise data warehouse (EDW).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish data validation processes that ensure data is accurate, consistent, and reliable across all sources.
  • Execute complex ETL tasks involving extraction, transformation, and loading of data from multiple sources, supporting both batch and incremental methods.
  • Design and build datasets to support data mining and advanced analytical initiatives.
  • Responsible for the deployment and automation of data processes and data mining algorithms.
  • Ability to stay current with emerging technologies, conduct evaluations, and recommend tools or platforms that align with organizational goals.
  • Ensure data practices align with company policies and comply with relevant data protection regulations, promoting security and privacy best practices.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data products, architectures, and data flows.
