RESEARCH OFFICE Data Engineer (Research Analytics) (25260361) The Research Office (RO) delivers central administrative services across a broad spectrum of research support, including grants and funding schemes, research ethics, integrity and policy, research committees, research culture and infrastructure, and institution-level partnerships and collaborations. We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Data Engineer (Research Analytics) to support the University’s research strategy by delivering high quality bibliometric and research analytics; stewarding researcher, outputs, and grants data in institutional systems; and enabling evidence-based decision making through responsible use of metrics. Use data to manage the full grant lifecycle—from internal seed funding to external competitive bids—improving pipeline visibility, conversion, and strategic decisions. Responsibilities: The appointee will lead bibliometrics, citation analysis, and responsible research assessment. They will produce benchmarking and trend analyses using Web of Science, Scopus, Dimensions, OpenAlex, and Google Scholar; and deliver insights for strategic planning, rankings, reviews, and annual reporting. The appointee will manage research information, curating profiles, outputs, grants. The appointee will also own grant lifecycle analytics and pipeline management end‑to‑end: track seed‑to‑grant conversion, timelines, and resubmissions; identify bottlenecks and support needs; and provide pre‑award intelligence on opportunities, funder fit/eligibility, and track‑record summaries. They will build and maintain dashboards (Power BI/Tableau) for funnels, cohorts, deadlines, and heatmaps by discipline/theme/career stage; and coordinate integrations and stage tracking. The appointee will deliver insight products and reporting with clear definitions and refresh schedules, conduct UAT/regression testing, and provide stakeholder training on responsible metrics and profile maintenance. Requirements: A good bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong focus on designing and building scalable data and familiarity with data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure); Passionate about handling data and engineering, with proficiency in designing and implementing data crawlers; Expertise in ETL technologies and processes; Experience with Python or Scala programming languages; Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases; Experience with Apache Spark (including PySpark) is highly valued; Experience building business-critical databases from the ground up (i.e., “0 to 1” implementations) is a strong plus; Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and Immediate availability is an advantage. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of 2 years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.
