Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois, is seeking an experienced and proactive Data Engineer Team Lead to join our Analytics team. The Data Engineer Team Lead is a senior member of the Analytics team with responsibilities in database administration, application development, mentorship, and project management. The role involves managing and optimizing our data infrastructure, including administration of Epic’s Cogito and Business Intelligence (BI) tools, developing and maintaining web applications, and overseeing SQL Server database operations. The Data Engineer Team Lead also functions as top tier Business Intelligence Developer and takes on the most sophisticated and challenging reporting projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in data engineering, experience with healthcare data systems, and a commitment to supporting high-quality patient care through data-driven insights.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years with data or financial analysis, healthcare setting preferred

REQUIRED LICENSURE/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

  • Achieve the Microsoft DBA certifications currently required by Epic for the Cogito platform

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead team huddle meetings to ensure alignment and effective communication.
  • Staff Onboarding: Onboard new staff members and integrate them into the team.
  • Education: Provide education and training to end users on BI tools and solutions.
  • In-Person Meetings: Attend meetings in person on occasion to represent the BI team.
  • Employee Rounding: Regularly round on DE employees to ensure their needs are met and to foster a supportive work environment.
  • Cogito/BI Administration: Maintain and manage Cogito-related security classes and templates in Epic. Oversee the maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Analytics’ Windows servers. Perform Cogito upgrades in line with Epic upgrades, including updating the Clarity Data Model and Epic-released reports. Ensure successful completion of nightly ETL processes, including modifying, troubleshooting, and executing fixes as necessary.
  • Application Development: Develop and maintain web applications using ASP.NET MVC, C#, and jQuery, supporting key data transmission and reporting tools. Design and maintain backend database models to support new features and applications. Develop and maintain SQL functions, views, and stored procedures to enhance application performance. Use Git/GitLab for codebase management, including server administration and team training. Automate recurring tasks using C# and batch files. Monitor and track end-user adoption and performance of applications.
  • Database Administration: Manage the maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and security of Analytics’ SQL Servers, SSRS, and SSAS. Perform SQL Server updates/upgrades and optimize query performance. Create and administer SQL Agent Jobs for automation of database maintenance, integrity checks, and notifications. Develop custom SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages. Conduct backups/restores outside of routine schedules as needed. Mentor Business Intelligence Developers and contribute to the development of departmental goals and policies. Manage report requests and ensure the delivery of high-quality reports within assigned domains.
  • Collaboration and Support: Actively participate in team code review processes, providing clear documentation and feedback. Serve as a liaison with end-users to document issues, conduct problem analysis, and deliver resolutions. Assist with strategic planning for analytics initiatives, system integration, and decision support application growth. Work with vendors to develop custom data extracts and manage automated data exchanges.
