Description:

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Snowflake Data Engineer to lead the implementation and optimization of the Division of Housing Stabilization’s data in our new Snowflake data warehouse. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data engineering, ETL development, data modeling, and Snowflake architecture. This role requires close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, performance optimization, and security compliance.
As a Snowflake Data Engineer, you will work closely with the technology team, data analysts, program staff, and partner organizations to build and maintain a high-performing cloud-based data warehouse that supports advanced analytics and reporting needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering with a focus on Snowflake data warehouse development.
  • Strong SQL proficiency, including performance tuning and optimization techniques in Snowflake.
  • Expertise in Snowflake architecture, including virtual warehouses, micro-partitioning, and data sharing.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks such as dbt, Talend, Apache Airflow, or Informatica.
  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages for automation and data processing.
  • Cloud platform experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience integrating Snowflake with third-party applications like Tableau, Salesforce, and REST APIs.
  • Strong knowledge of data security standards (RBAC, encryption, compliance).
  • Experience in data governance frameworks and metadata management tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • SnowPro Advanced Architect or SnowPro Data Engineer certification.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control using GitHub.
  • Knowledge of JIRA or other project management tools.
  • Experience working in public sector, affordable housing, or social services data environments.
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.

    Pay: $80.00 - $88.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 40 per week

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimize Snowflake data warehouse solutions, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data governance.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines integrating multiple internal and external data sources.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
  • Write complex SQL queries and stored procedures for performance tuning and analytics.
  • Develop and automate ETL/ELT workflows using Python, dbt, Airflow, or other automation tools.
  • Leverage Snowflake features such as Time Travel, Cloning, Data Sharing, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to enhance data management.
  • Optimize Snowflake performance by monitoring compute resources, storage, and query execution plans.
  • Develop and maintain data visualizations and reports using Tableau or other BI tools.
  • Ensure data security through role-based access controls, data masking, and encryption.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Document data architecture, data flow diagrams, and pipeline processes to ensure clarity and maintainability.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, code reviews, and DevOps practices.
