ROLE

We need an experienced Data Engineer at the IRS ISS program. The Infrastructure Shared Services (ISS) contract provides enterprise-wide IT solutions, including engineering, development, integration, and operations across IRS platforms and cloud environments. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize large-scale data pipelines, models, and transformation logic to support IRS systems such as the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP). You will lead efforts to modernize legacy data stores into cloud-native architectures, integrate with BI and reporting tools, and ensure compliance with governance and security requirements. This is a full-time opportunity. We can offer a competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines across IRS data platforms.
  • Build and maintain data models, data lakes, and data warehouses (Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Support the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) with data engineering, metadata management, and governance practices (Informatica EDC, Axon, DPM).
  • Lead efforts to modernize legacy mainframe-based data stores (VSAM, QSAM) into relational and NoSQL environments.
  • Develop XML/JSON schemas and record layouts for electronic intake of tax forms and schedules.
  • Implement unified APIs and support ontology and data dictionary development across IMF, CADE2, BMF, and other IRS data sources.
  • Provide data lineage mapping and metadata documentation to support IRS modernization and auditability.
  • Implement data quality checks, reconciliation processes, and error correction.
  • Ensure compliance with data encryption, lifecycle management, and regulatory standards.
  • Support business intelligence and reporting platforms (Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects) with data feeds and semantic models.
  • Perform data validation, defect triage, and technical support for filing season database conversions (CADE2, CADE2 ODS).
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices to IRS stakeholders on data usage.
  • Collaborate with compliance and tax processing systems to provide cross-taxpayer analytical data extracts.
  • Maintain technical documentation for pipelines, workflows, and schemas for knowledge transfer.
