What would you do?

LOCATION: MCLEAN VA (5 DAYS ONSITE IN A WEEK)

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Database Administrator Lead with hands-on experience in DB2, PostgreSQL, and AWS database tools. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our database environments while driving migrations, tuning performance, and enabling data-driven decisions.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Proven experience administering DB2 and PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Strong experience with AWS database services and cloud migration tools (e.g., AWS DMS, RDS).
• Solid skills in performance tuning, backup/recovery, replication, and high-availability solutions.
• Experience leading database migration projects with thorough data validation and reconciliation.
• Good data analysis skills to derive insights and support business decisions.
• Strong troubleshooting, scripting (shell, Python, or similar), and automation skills.
• Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

• Several years of DBA experience with at least moderate exposure to both DB2 and PostgreSQL.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).

• Administer, maintain, and optimize DB2 and PostgreSQL databases in on-prem and cloud environments.
• Use AWS services (RDS, EC2, S3, DMS, CloudWatch, etc.) to manage and monitor cloud-based databases.
• Monitor performance, perform tuning, and implement high-availability and scaling strategies.
• Lead database migration projects, plan cutovers, perform data validation, and coordinate cross-functional teams to minimize downtime.
• Perform data analysis to support business needs, ensuring data quality, integrity, and consistency.
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes; apply patches and upgrades.
• Implement security controls and compliance measures for sensitive data.
• Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting, and mentorship to developers and DBAs; document configurations and best practices.
