Your tasks

Building data foundations: You plan and maintain data pipelines and data warehouses for statistical datasets. You support the research staff in the analysis and publication of this data.

Working with people and data: You use your communication skills to understand the requirements of our stakeholders and acquire the necessary domain knowledge; you outline solutions and implement them in ETL pipelines and/or web applications.

Designing databases and applications: You develop data-driven web applications while keeping an eye on data security and privacy requirements.

Project management: You will be responsible for leading data-related projects, from needs assessment and implementation to rollout. You will coordinate stakeholders, keep track of deadlines and budgets, and ensure a smooth handover to operations.

Your profile

Experience: You have several years of experience in data modeling and analysis with MS SQL Server, SQL, and Python, and have implemented web applications, e.g., with Django. You are familiar with GitLab/GitHub and have an interest in or experience with AI.

Personality: You enjoy working on diverse tasks and are interested in new things. You like taking on responsibility and sharing your expertise. You feel comfortable working independently but also enjoy contributing to a team.

Education: You have a university degree at the master's level, e.g. in computer science, (business) informatics, data science, statistics or another relevant field of study.

Language: You enjoy communicating and are good at communicating in German, both orally and in writing.

The Statistical Office is part of the Presidential Department and serves as the statistics and data competence center for the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Operating independently and according to scientific principles, it provides up-to-date statistical information and delivers reliable services to the public and government. By publishing open government data, it contributes to transparency in government actions. It shapes data management within the canton and advocates for efficient data flows and effective data governance.
