The Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in the Federal Republic of Germany (Zi) is the research institute of the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of the German states and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, operating as a foundation under civil law. The Zi's research and studies primarily focus on outpatient medicine. The core of its work involves the analysis of nationwide data from contracted medical care, including drug prescriptions.

To support these tasks, we are looking for a new team member for the IT and Data Science department at our Berlin location, starting on October 1, 2026.

Data Engineer (m/f/d) full-time or part-time.

You will work on key projects such as the 116117 appointment service or SmED and other innovative initiatives aimed at improving medical care in Germany. What are your responsibilities?

  • Working with Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, Apache Doris and S3-based storage solutions
  • Collaboration with data scientists, database administrators, and healthcare researchers to support data analysis.
  • Version control and collaborative work with Git

What we expect from you:

  • Completed studies in computer science or a related field, or demonstrable professional experience in the above-mentioned areas of responsibility.
  • Solid knowledge of Python, SQL and experience in handling ETL processes
  • Practical experience with relevant technologies
  • Independent and goal-oriented work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Enjoyment of solving complex data problems and interest in projects that support healthcare in Germany
  • A confident and friendly demeanor as well as excellent German skills (C1 level)

What do we offer you?

  • A permanent employment contract
  • Participation in innovative topics in the German healthcare system
  • Remuneration structures based on professional qualifications, similar to the TVöD (Collective Agreement for the Public Sector).
  • An employer-funded supplementary pension scheme
  • Support in reconciling work and family life (up to 60 percent of regular working hours possible in home office with provision of a work laptop)
  • Flexible working hours including overtime compensation
  • individual further training opportunities
  • 30 days of annual leave
  • attractive employee benefits (corporate benefits)
  • Subsidy for membership in the Urban Sports Club
  • Discounts on public transport
  • Use of the canteen at reduced prices
