WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY ABOUT?

Unbabel is looking for a Data Engineering Intern to join our team. As a Data Engineering Intern, you’ll help design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure and pipelines that support Unbabel’s core products and analytics. This is a unique opportunity to learn how large-scale language and translation data is processed, stored, and analyzed in a real-world, production environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Basic programming skills—preferably Python (or similar language).
  • Interest in data engineering, databases, cloud services, or big data.
  • Understanding of fundamental data structures and concepts (e.g. tables, schemas, SQL or basic database querying).
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn best practices in data engineering, data processing, and analytics.
  • Ability to communicate in English and work collaboratively in a team.
  • Eagerness to ask questions, seek feedback, and grow as an engineer.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with data engineers and other technical teams to understand business requirements and deliver data solutions.
  • Assist in building, testing, and maintaining data pipelines (extraction, transformation, loading—ETL) and data integrations.
  • Help optimize the performance and reliability of our data workflows.
  • Contribute to the documentation of data architecture, pipelines, and processes.
  • Learn to work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
  • Support data quality efforts—including monitoring, testing, and validation.
  • Participate in daily team standups, sprint planning, and code reviews.
  • Grow your skills in modern data tools, programming, and cloud technologies.
