Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

The Data Governance Analyst will be part of the data governance team working on initiatives like data cataloguing, data quality, data classification etc. The role will be central to the success of the University’s Data Management and Integrations Strategy ensuring usage and adoption of the data and metadata of our critical data assets. BNU is at the beginning of this journey, so there will be the opportunity to help define the organisation’s data governance approach. They will work closely with the other data capabilities and broader business, supporting, challenging, and championing data and analytics for better decision making and to assure that statutory and external reporting requirements and standards are met.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

  • Utilising data profiling techniques to discover, analyse and assess data quality within the organisation and documenting the characteristics, quality and usability of these data assets contextually within the data catalogue.
  • Assist in defining data quality rules, data classification, and data lineage standards and processes.
  • Creating data quality rules on behalf of the business and identify and report any data quality issues or anomalies found during the data profiling process.
  • Support data governance initiatives by ensuring compliance with data management standards and policies.
  • Proactively suggest enhancements to the data catalogue to improve data discoverability, usability, and governance.
  • Capturing, validating and maintaining various types of metadata within the University’s data catalogue that includes (but not limited to) data definitions, owners, classifications, sources, lineage etc.
  • Working closely with data owners, stakeholders, data analysts, business users etc. to gather and document the above types of metadata information and getting them validated, approved & certified using manual and automated workflows.
  • Regularly updating and enhancing the data catalogue to reflect changes in data assets, data sources and structures, and data governance policies.
  • Hold training and demos for the end-users on the data catalogue tool to ensure easy adoption for the business.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to promote data catalogue adoption, educate users on data catalogue features and benefits, and address any concerns or enquiries related to the data catalogue.
  • Collaborate with other members of the data governance team and wider Directorate to establish and maintain data governance frameworks, data standards, and data stewardship processes.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
