About the role
Avant is building a modern, business-led data governance capability that bridges the gap between business and technology. As we align with strategic imperatives and regulatory obligations, our integrated approach ensures data is well-managed, trusted, and delivers value across the organisation.
As a Data Governance Analyst, you’ll play a key role in embedding our enterprise-wide Data Governance Framework and standards. You’ll support Data Owners and Stewards in understanding and aligning with internal policies and external regulations, including CPG 235, the Privacy Act, and CPS 230.
This is a hands-on role is ideal for someone with strong technical capabilities in data pipelines, metadata management, and governance tooling. You’ll collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure data quality, consistency, and trust.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview is essential.
  • Previous experience in data governance, data management, or data analytics roles.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and practices, including data classification, metadata management, data quality, and sensitive data labelling.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, ETL processes, and data pipeline development.
  • Solid understanding of data platforms such as Databricks, and integration with BI/reporting tools.
  • Confident in profiling data and identifying root causes of data issues.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous roles in regulated industries, ideally financial services or insurance.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data governance tools (e.g. Informatica, Collibra, Alex Solutions).
  • Exposure to metadata management, data lineage tracking, and data modelling.

Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Data Governance Framework, including associated policies, standards, and processes.
  • Maintain and evolve key governance assets such as the Business Glossary, Data Catalogue, and Data Dictionary.
  • Coordinate and lead data quality initiatives; identify, escalate, and help resolve data quality issues across operational teams.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure governance is embedded in data products, pipelines, and platforms.
  • Promote awareness and adoption of data governance practices across the business.
