Description

Horan Power Engineering is an electrical engineering consultancy and O&M provider, specialising in renewable energy. We’re passionate about engineering, and about providing insightful consultancy services to our clients to make sure their projects exceed the industry standard. We work mostly in utility scale solar PV, wind and energy storage, and we offer services from design phase things like earthing assessments, systems design and grid studies, through to construction, operation and maintenance.
Of course, lots of companies could say that. Talking about passion, insight or specialism, or having a website full of wind turbine photos is dead easy. We’ve built a good reputation in the renewables industry over 16 years, and it’s by being good at what we do. We’ve got an established maintenance team who operate and maintain 5GW of solar farms and wind farms across the UK & Ireland, so our consultancy is backed up by hands on experience. We use cutting edge test equipment to assess the condition of equipment across the country, and crucially our experts problem solve based off those results to get to the bottom of issues and provide useful advice to our clients, not just a list of test results. We provide clever asset management services to monitor the condition of equipment across the UK & Ireland and ensure the right spares are available when they’re needed to minimise downtime. We provide Owners’ Engineer services to the biggest solar PV portfolios in the UK. Our company has always been driven by the desire to do interesting things and solve interesting problems. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Requirements:

  • 2:1 honours degree in a related field
  • Strong numeracy, written English and report writing skills
  • Experience in data management and analytic
Responsibilities

We’re looking for someone highly IT literate and interested in data structuring and analysis. You’ll be part of our consultancy team, with two main roles

  • Developing IT systems to make us more efficient as a company, particularly in areas where we manage and process large volumes of data. This will include replacing some of our older legacy systems.
  • Responsible for developing new tools to identify trends and patterns in data.

We’re not a big company, so you’ll be exposed to a variety of different workstreams and given the chance to gain a range of experience. With an interest in technology your role will cover asset management database design and creation, communicating with monitoring equipment on generating sites and analysing the data, revamping our web-based authorisation system, and tweaking the company website. Where there are gaps in your experience HPE will support you to learn new skills. Crucially what we’re after is somebody who is keen to learn, and willing to spot problems and get stuck in to provide solutions.
Consultancy is a fast-moving business – there are always new and interesting things coming in the door. As well as dealing with internal improvement tasks there will be an opportunity to get involved in projects such as condition monitoring and providing advice to clients to support intelligent asset management. This covers things like transformer oil condition monitoring, transformer testing, data analysis and site condition assessments on solar farms and wind farms.
The nature of our work means site visits to remote locations may be required, so a full UK driving licence is necessary.
