Description

About the job

Data Migrations Engineer

Salary: up to £65,000

Location: Hybrid – 1 day per fortnight in South Manchester

The Role

My client is investing heavily in its data and AI capability and is looking for a Data Migrations Engineer to join its central data team.

This is not a generic ETL or infrastructure migration role. The focus is on moving live operational data safely between business systems, often following acquisitions or wider platform consolidation.

Typical projects could include CRM-to-CRM, billing system migrations, or moving data between operational platforms.

The challenge is not simply moving data from A to B. It is understanding how source and target systems behave differently and identifying issues around validation rules, automation, calculated fields, relationships and business logic before cutover.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data discovery, profiling and quality assessment
  • Build detailed source-to-target mappings
  • Identify differences in validation, automation and system behaviour
  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and transformation logic
  • Own reconciliation and post-migration validation
  • Investigate data, mapping and platform-related issues
  • Document migration logic and platform quirks
  • Support data remediation, cutover and rollback planning

What My Client Is Looking For

The key requirement is real application data migration experience.

This is not aimed at someone whose background is purely database or cloud migration. The successful candidate will have experience moving data between operational systems where poor migration can directly impact customers or the business.

You should have:

  • Strong SQL skills
  • Python experience
  • Hands-on data migration experience
  • Source-to-target mapping experience
  • Strong understanding of validation, reconciliation and data quality
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and attention to detail
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and changing requirements

Nice to Have

  • Salesforce migration experience
  • CRM, billing or subscription platform experience
  • Dynamics or Chargebee
  • Snowflake, Databricks or dbt
  • AI-assisted development tools
  • Agile experience

My client’s wider stack includes Snowflake, Databricks, Airbyte, dbt, Dagster, Hightouch, GitHub and Omni, but candidates do not need experience across all of these.

The team suits people who are comfortable with pace, ownership and working things out for themselves.

Interview Process - wrapped up within 7 days

Stage 1: experience and fit (on MS Teams)

Stage 2: technical discussion covering SQL, Python and migration scenarios (On MS Teams)

No take-home task or presentation.
