Description

About the job

Data Migration Engineer – Business Applications & CRMSalary: £60,000 - £70,000Location: Hybrid (1 day per week in South Manchester office)Process: 2 stages via MS Teams | Completed within 7 days | No take-home tasks or presentations

  • ⚠️ PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING – This is NOT a standard BI/Pipeline roleWhat this role IS: A highly specialised engineering position focused on moving live operational data (CRMs, billing, subscription platforms) safely between business systems following major acquisitions and platform consolidations.

  • What this role IS NOT: We are not looking for someone to build standard analytics pipelines, maintain data warehouses, or create Tableau/PowerBI dashboards. We are also not looking for infrastructure or server migration specialists.

If you do not have hands-on experience mapping complex source-to-target application logic and system behaviours, this role will not be a fit.

The ChallengeThe hurdle here isn’t simply moving data from A to B. It is understanding how different operational systems behave. You will dive deep into source and target environments to identify and resolve discrepancies in validation rules, automated workflows, calculated fields, and parent-child record relationships before the live cutover.

  • Core ResponsibilitiesData Discovery & Mapping: Lead data profiling and quality assessments to build rock-solid, detailed source-to-target maps.
  • Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines and transformation logic using Python and SQL.
  • System Triage: Uncover platform quirks, discrepancies in validation, and system-level behaviors that could break data integrity.
  • Cutover & Validation: Own the end-to-end reconciliation, post-migration validation, data remediation, and rollback planning.

What We Are Looking ForThe absolute non-negotiable is real application data migration experience where a poor migration would directly disrupt customers or live business operations.

  • Technical Core: Elite-level SQL skills and strong, practical Python experience.
  • Migration Expertise: Proven track record of hands-on data migrations and source-to-target mapping.
  • Data Quality: A deep understanding of data validation, reconciliation techniques, and handling data quality anomalies.
  • Mindset: Comfort navigating high ambiguity, shifting platform requirements, and taking total ownership of a project.

  • Nice-to-Have (But not dealbreakers)Experience migrating major ecosystems like Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, or Chargebee.
  • Exposure to modern stack tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Airbyte, or Dagster.

Fast-Track Interview Process

  1. We move quickly. The entire process is wrapped up within 7 days over Microsoft Teams:Stage 1 (30 mins): Experience, background, and cultural fit discussion.
  2. Stage 2 (60 mins): Technical discussion covering SQL, Python, and real-world migration scenarios.

  • Apply now with your up-to-date CV for immediate consideration.
