This is an onsite position working out of our Edmonton office Monday through Friday. The Opportunity The Data Conversion Engineer plays a pivotal role in implementing Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) systems by converting legacy real and personal property assessment and taxation data into modern platforms. This position is responsible for the full lifecycle of data conversion—from source analysis to transformation, validation, and loading—ensuring data integrity, consistency, and alignment with jurisdiction-specific assessment requirements. What you Will do Analyze legacy CAMA and tax system data structures to develop data mapping to the target CAMA solution. Solicit support from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and clients to complete data mapping. Design, build, and maintain ETL processes using SQL and scripting tools to convert parcel, valuation, ownership, sales, exemptions, and building characteristics data. Additionally convert Personal Property data including ownership, asset, original cost, purchase year, and depreciated value. Collaborate with internal teams and client-side subject matter experts (SMEs), including assessors and IT staff, to understand jurisdiction-specific rules and nuances. Implement business rules and transformation logic that align with state regulations and IAAO standards for assessment data. Conduct multiple conversion passes (e.g., baseline, mid-project, final) and reconcile outputs with source data. Reconciliation Metrics include: · Active/Inactive Record Count · Improved Property County · Number of Buildings · Valuation by Land Use (Class code) Identify and resolve data anomalies, quality issues, and inconsistencies through cleansing and validation routines. Add validation elements to main QA checklist to reflect lessons learned from prior conversion projects. Provide converted datasets for User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and support client-side verification. Maintain clear documentation of mapping specifications, conversion logic, and data lineage. Support go-live activities and post-implementation troubleshooting. Ensure compliance with data security protocols and sensitive taxpayer information handling requirements. Requirements What you Will Need to Succeed Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, or a related field 3+ years of experience with data conversion, data migration, or ETL development, preferably with the public sector data, specifically related to property tax. Strong proficiency in SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL, or equivalent) and relational database systems. Experience working with property assessment, tax roll, and CAMA datasets. Strong understanding of property data structures such as parcels, land, improvements, permits, and sales. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data issues. Preferred: Experience with CAMA platforms such as Catalis (Patriot), Vision, Tyler iasWorld, DevNet, ProVal, similar. Familiarity with government land records and assessment practices. Knowledge of IAAO standards and assessment ratio study methodologies. Experience with data migration tools (e.g., FME, SSIS, Talend). Exposure to GIS integration in property assessment workflows. Experience using project management tools (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet).
