POSITION SUMMARY
The Office of Undergraduate Education seeks an entry-level Data Resource Analyst with an equity mindset, a passion for problem solving, and a commitment to student success to support data and assessment within the division. This position will work within the Assessment and Data Analytics team within the Undergrad Education division to provide support for data-informed decision making through querying, merging, and cleaning databases of student information; supporting data collection through surveys and other means; and communicating findings. This position is eligible to be part of the Remote Friendly policy of Michigan State University and can be fully remote (within the United States), hybrid, or fully in-person.
The Undergrad Education division oversees Undergraduate Education and facilitates institution-wide initiatives focused on enhancing undergraduate learning and student success. Undergrad Education is comprised of units including direct student support programs like Migrant Student Services, New Student Orientation, and Pathway Persistence Programs; Academic Support and Curriculum units like Academic Advising, First Year Seminars, Military Science, and Aerospace Studies; and campus-wide student success initiatives. We are committed to closing opportunity gaps for all students to reach our goal of an 86% graduation rate with no opportunity gaps by 2030.
The successful candidate will have SQL, data analytics, data visualization, and project management skills to support retrieving, merging, basic analysis, and reporting data for the division. They will support recurring and ad-hoc data requests from Undergrad Education units, including survey development. The candidate will be required to collaborate with other staff, query against a variety of data sources using SQL language, merge different data sources together, conduct basic descriptive statistics, and develop reports of results for planning and decision-making as it relates to unit and university strategic plans for undergraduate education.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master’s in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a bachelor’s degree in fields such as Statistics, Computational Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, or related fields
Master’s degree or equivalent experience/certifications in Education Research Methodology, Higher Education, Economics, Statistics/Applied Mathematics, Computer Sciences, or other relevant field
Experience with descriptive and correlational statistical methods
Experience working in higher education or knowledge of university administrative organization, policies, procedures, and practices
Experience with Qualtrics, survey design, and survey implementation
Applications will be considered for degrees to be completed no later than December 2025
Knowledge of SQL querying in Oracle environments
Basic knowledge of descriptive statistics
Basic knowledge of statistical software such as Stata
Basic knowledge of data visualization software such as Tableau or PowerBI
