The Evaluation Data Science team in Apple Maps is responsible for A/B experimentation, exploratory data analysis, metrics development, generative analytics, opportunity analysis, and more. Our mission is to use data to understand the voice of our users, at scale, while building the best and most privacy-aware Map in the world. We are looking for a talented Data Science Manager to join our cross-functional team. We work in a fast-paced data-focused environment where your Data Science teams are given runway to own big projects and drive impact across the Maps organization.

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a mix of management experience and technical skills. In this role, you will: - Provide clear feedback and guidance to your team to enable the development of new leaders - Guide teams in the development of online and offline metrics - Focus your teams to innovate in new analysis methodologies and opportunity analysis in order to drive meaningful product improvements - Own relationships with cross-functional partners in engineering, project management, product management, data quality, and design - Build team capabilities (through hiring, training, tool development, and process innovation) that enable reproducible and understandable data-driven decision-making. Become a trusted expert within the Maps organization - Recruit, hire, and grow people who have both the technical depth and the soft skills to succeed in a highly collaborative and innovative environment - Influence the roadmap of partners and collaborators using actionable insights and data intuition

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience building and driving a data-driven culture, with hands-on experience in data science, data analysis, data-informed product innovation, and experimentation.
  • Strong analytical product intuition; able to use data to guide user experience and product development. Experience with the definition and development of both user instrumentation and metrics, along with A/B experimentation
  • MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Psychology, or similar quantitative domain
  • Proficient in Python and SQL
  • Track record of managerial excellence around recruiting diverse talent, growing and scaling analytics organizations, and coaching/mentoring team members to level up their own skills
  • Ability to manage complex cross-functional relationships. Experience partnering closely with engineering teams
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, and excellent presentation skills to all levels of an organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with spatial data analysis
  • Prior proven industry experience with large data sets using technologies like Hadoop and Spark
  • Experience writing pipelines for automating analytics tasks at scale
  • Domain-specific knowledge of the mapping/transportation/GIS industry
  • Prior experience with point of interest related products and metrics
