Description The Data Scientist III leads advanced analytics efforts that transform large structured and unstructured datasets into mission-relevant insight for NSWC Crane stakeholders. This role develops and applies statistical, machine learning, and data-engineering approaches to support decision-making, technical assessments, and operational planning. The Data Scientist III also guides data pipeline architecture, analytic model governance, and stakeholder-ready reporting products. This position is contingent upon award. Award is expected around the end of the year (2026). Requirements Master’s degree - 10+ years of professional experience in data science. - Demonstrated capability applying data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning, and visualization techniques to large datasets. - Experience with modern data tooling and platforms for data extraction, transformation, analysis, and reporting. - Strong understanding of mathematical/statistical foundations and model performance evaluation. - Ability to produce concise technical documentation, analytic products, and executive summaries for government review. - Active DoD Secret clearance (or clearable to that level) required due to support for classified programs and facilities. Demonstrated success delivering production-ready analytics in DoD/Navy environments with strict security and data-governance constraints. - Strong proficiency with Python/R data science ecosystems (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter) and SQL/NoSQL workflows. - Experience designing ETL pipelines, API-based data ingestion, and reproducible model validation practices. - Ability to communicate complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical leadership audiences. - Familiarity with operations research methods and mission-focused analytical trade studies.
