JOB DESCRIPTION:

At Regions, the Data Scientist works with scrum teams that consist of multi-disciplined and cross-functional groups of Data Scientists, Data Product Partners, Data Engineers, Data Visualization Specialists, and Database Administrators and Developers etc. The ideal candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of data science and relevant programming languages. They should also have exposure to data wrangling such as querying, filtering and aggregating data. With these skills, they will research, model, implement, and validate predictive and prescriptive algorithms to analyze diverse sources of data and achieve targeted outcomes. The position at this level is considered entry-level and will consistently seek out opportunities to develop and evolve knowledge and skills as it relates to daily tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
Works with large volumes of structured and unstructured data, performs data cleansing, transformation, and feature engineering to prepare data for modeling
Leverages statistical analysis, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, collaborates with various lines of business to design data products that enhance profitability, mitigate risks, and drive customer engagement across all touchpoints
Develops Large Language Model (LLM) and Generative AI use cases to address business needs such as conversational banking, document summarization and analysis, personalized marketing, or underwriting and risk assessment.
Leverages cloud-based analytical platforms to build data analytics solutions
Extracts actionable insights from data to support data-driven decision-making processes
Collaborates with risk management and compliance teams; Engages in model risk validation processes and ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements
Focuses on delivering routine and defined outputs while actively developing a broader understanding of the business context and advancing technical skills
This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or analytical field and two (2) years of relevant experience
Or Master’s degree in a quantitative or analytical field, such as Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
One (1) year of programming experience in Python or R
One (1) year of experience using cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Snowflake or Databricks
Preferences
One (1) year of experience in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Artificial Intelligence
One (1) year of hands-on experience with Big Data tools and platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Impala or Kafka
Background in banking and/or other financial services
Exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Model (LLM) or GenAI projects
Exposure to techniques such as Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT), Variational Autoencoders (VAE), and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)
Exposure to Agile Software Development Lifecycle
Skills and Competencies
Ability to learn additional systems as needed
Ability to research, analyze data, and derive facts
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Deep understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, machine learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, or recommendation and optimization algorithms
Expertise analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets using tools like Python or R
Expertise using libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
Expertise writing complex SQL queries for data wrangling, data mining, data analysis, and feature engineering
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Proficiency using cloud-based analytics platforms such as AWS SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning Studio, Google Cloud AI Platform, Snowflake or Databricks
Proficiency with Big Data tools or platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Impala or Kafka) or NoSQL databases (MongoDB or DynamoDB)
Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
Strong work ethic and self-motivation
This position is intended to be onsite, now or in the near future . Associates will have regular work hours, including full days in the office three or more days a week. The manager will set the work schedule for this position, including in-office expectations. Regions will not provide relocation assistance for this position, and relocation would be at your expense. The locations available for this role are Birmingham, AL, Nashville, TN, Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC.
