ABOUT THIS POSITION
Are you passionate about data and location? Does the complexity of what lies beneath our feet excite you just as much as the challenges of working with large databases? Do you have hands-on experience in operationalizing AI solutions? Join TNO – Geological Survey of the Netherlands (TNO-GDN) in Utrecht as a Data Scientist and make your mark on the future.
At TNO-GDN, we turn geological data into 3D models of the subsurface to help the Netherlands better understand what’s happening underground.
Subsurface information plays a vital role in spatial planning (think large infrastructure or construction projects), the energy transition (such as geothermal energy and storage), safety (like earthquakes and dike monitoring), and climate adaptation (including drought and drinking water). With the help of data and models, we explore the potential of the subsurface, assess how to use it sustainably, and advise on opportunities and risks.
The Netherlands holds an enormous wealth of subsurface data, managed by TNO-GDN in the BRO (Key Register of the Subsurface) and the DINO database. Turning this data into a model, analysis, or AI solution that’s ready for internal or external use involves many steps. That’s where you come in. With your enthusiasm for data and passion for the Dutch subsurface, you’ll help make complex data clear and accessible using innovative techniques. Your work will directly support one of the largest programmes within TNO and contribute to solving major challenges in energy, water, and critical materials.
