Description
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator (Level 3) to join our Platform Engineering team. This role will work closely with other DBAs, DevOps engineers, and application teams to ensure the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of our data platforms. The project is on Microsoft Azure, with strong exposure to Azure SQL, Azure Synapse / Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI. The ideal candidate is a hands-on expert in database performance tuning, capable of setting operational standards, mentoring junior DBAs, and driving best practices across the organization. Experience Required 7–10 years of overall experience in Database Administration 2-3+ years of hands-on experience working with Azure-based data platforms Key Responsibilities Own and manage enterprise-grade database platforms primarily on Microsoft Azure Administer and optimize Azure SQL Database / Azure SQL Managed Instance environments Perform advanced database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning Support and optimize analytical workloads involving Azure Synapse / Microsoft Fabric Collaborate with data teams supporting Power BI reporting and data models Design, implement, and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies Define, document, and enforce DBA operational standards, procedures, and best practices Work closely with DevOps and Platform engineers to support automation, CI/CD, and reliability initiatives Proactively monitor database health, performance, and security Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex database-related incidents Guide and mentor junior DBAs, providing technical leadership and reviews Act as a key contributor to database architecture and platform decisions Core Skill Set (Must Have) Strong hands-on experience with Azure SQL (Azure SQL DB / Managed Instance) Expertise in database performance tuning and optimization Query tuning, indexing strategies, execution plans Locking, blocking, waits, and concurrency management Solid understanding of SQL Server internals and architecture Experience supporting Azure Synapse Analytics or Microsoft Fabric environments Knowledge of databases supporting Power BI and analytical workloads Strong experience with monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting production databases Hands-on experience with backup, restore, HA, and DR strategies in Azure Ability to define and enforce DBA standards, processes, and operational runbooks Proven experience mentoring junior DBAs Strong collaboration and communication skills Good to Have Skills Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines Automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar tools Infrastructure as Code exposure (ARM, Terraform, Bicep) Knowledge of Azure security best practices for data platforms Experience with database migrations to Azure Familiarity with enterprise observability and monitoring tools Experience working in large-scale, high-availability production systems Why Join MRI Software?
