Description
Overview DecisionPoint seeks a Senior Database Administration Lead to provide enterprise-wide leadership of database operations supporting a major federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role oversees secure hosting of IL5-compliant database platforms, ensuring optimal performance, schema governance, RMF control alignment, and full integration with the SDLC, DevSecOps, and application development teams. The Database Administration Lead is responsible for database engineering, performance tuning, replication, failover strategies, backup and recovery, and vulnerability remediation while leading a technical team of database administrators. This role ensures the reliability, resilience, and security of mission-critical data systems across multiple environments. This position is fully remote. Duties & Responsibilities The Database Administration Lead will: Provide senior-level leadership over database operations, engineering, and administration in IL5 cloud and on-premise environments. Oversee schema governance, indexing strategies, data modeling, and optimization for performance and scalability. Ensure database platforms comply with DoD security requirements, RMF controls, STIG baselines, and audit readiness. Lead performance tuning efforts, query optimization, and troubleshooting of complex database issues. Manage backup, recovery, replication, clustering, and failover strategies to support high availability. Coordinate with DevSecOps engineers on database integration within CI/CD pipelines. Support secure SDLC processes, including database change control and release planning. Manage database access controls, permissions, service accounts, and privileged user oversight. Oversee vulnerability scanning, patch planning, and remediation for database technologies. Collaborate with application developers to align database design with business logic, data workflows, and mission requirements. Maintain database documentation, ER diagrams, configuration baselines, and operational runbooks. Lead and mentor a team of DBAs, ensuring adherence to best practices, consistent processes, and high operational readiness. Provide technical input to modernization initiatives, cloud migration strategies, and new platform evaluations. Qualifications Clearance Requirement Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation. Education (Required) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field. Experience (Required) Minimum 10 years of experience in database administration, engineering, or architecture roles. Demonstrated leadership in managing enterprise-class database systems in secure federal or DoD environments. Experience implementing IL5 database security controls, RMF requirements, and STIG compliance. Experience supporting SDLC integration, release cycles, and DevSecOps workflows. Experience with performance tuning, complex queries, indexing, and database optimization. Experience managing replication, clustering, failover, and backup/recovery operations. Technical Knowledge (Required) Strong expertise with relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL). Proficiency in database security, encryption, auditing, and privileged access management. Knowledge of RMF, STIGs, IL5 cloud security controls, and DoD cybersecurity requirements. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and DevSecOps concepts. Experience with database monitoring tools, log analysis, and performance analytics. Technical Knowledge (Preferred) Experience with NoSQL or distributed data platforms. Experience supporting cloud-native database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, etc.). Familiarity with enterprise data governance and metadata management. Certifications Required: CompTIA Security+ Preferred: AWS Database Specialty or AWS Security certifications CISSP or CCSP Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server vendor certifications Skills Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor technical teams. Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities, especially for complex data and performance issues. Clear communication skills for working with developers, security teams, and federal stakeholders. Strong attention to detail with disciplined documentation and configuration management practices. Ability to manage priorities across multiple environments in a mission-critical setting.
