ABOUT THE ROLE:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator working with large-scale, highly concurrent, and highly available distributed systems. Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Operations, you will work alongside a team of skilled DBAs, focusing on the health and performance of the SQL Server databases that support our entire application stack throughout their lifecycle. You will be an expert in designing, building, and maintaining SQL Server databases—both for in-house applications and for vendor-provided solutions. Knowledge of Windows Server (and familiarity with Linux) as an operating system is essential for this position.

TYPICAL DAILY DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Configure and monitor interfaces with other systems.
  • Maintain systems, user databases, instances, schemas, table spaces, tables, indexes, buffer pools, and logs.
  • Manage system and database user IDs, group permissions, backups, and recoveries.
  • Provide expertise in: Database performance, High Availability & Scalability.
  • Play a key role in data migrations between systems, including data refreshes.
  • Plan, install, and maintain DBMS software in both standalone and clustered environments.
  • Automate database tasks using stored procedures and scripting.
  • Proactively monitor application and database performance and recommend architectural improvements.
  • Assess database scalability and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Ensure the integrity of databases supporting mission-critical applications in Saskatchewan’s health sector.
  • You will be part of the incident resolution process and thus will need to be a part of the on-call rotation that provides 24 x 7 DBA support.
