Position Summary: athena’s Product Analytics team is seeking a “Database Engineering Manager” in Chennai to help design and maintain our Analytics Data Warehouse (ADW), a single source of truth for data driven decision making and client-facing analytics at Athena. As a data modeler, you’ll work at the intersection of engineering, analytics, and product, translating complex healthcare and financial workflows into clean, extensible star schemas that power platforms like Insights, DataView, and Query Builder. You’ll collaborate with analysts, product managers, data engineers, and other domain modelers to ensure that our models are trusted, performant, and reusable across teams. Required Qualifications 8+ years of experience in data modeling, analytics engineering, or business intelligence in the Healthcare domain Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling, especially star and snowflake schemas Familiarity with data warehouse design principles, including performance optimization, grain definition, and extensibility Proficiency in SQL (Snowflake experience preferred) Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders Key Responsibilities Design dimensional data models (primarily star schemas) in Snowflake to support financial, clinical, and operational analytics use cases Serve as a consultant and reviewer for projects that extend or introduce new facts and dimensions to the ADW Ensure models align with ADW design standards for naming, grain, extensibility, and documentation Partner with analytics and product teams to understand business requirements, define KPIs, and identify reusable data patterns Define model boundaries and shared components to avoid redundancy and uphold data consistency Help scale modeling operations by contributing to internal modeling guides, Confluence documentation, and tooling (e.g. semantic layers, metadata tracking) Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with semantic layers (e.g. snowflake or dbt Semantic Layer) Exposure to data governance tools, metadata catalogs, or modeling design documentation Comfortable navigating complex organizations and helping align disparate stakeholder needs into cohesive data designs About athenahealth Our vision: In an industry that becomes more complex by the day, we stand for simplicity.
