POSITION SUMMARY

The Davis Maine Scholarship Coordinator supports the Davis Maine Scholarship program, its first-generation college students, and their families, and develops programming for the students while in high school continuing into college, and through to graduation. The Davis Maine Scholarship Coordinator is a part of the Mission’s student engagement and scholarship team. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Core Qualifications

  • Experience with schools and/or organizations that serve first-generation college students from low income, rural backgrounds
  • Experience with scholarship and college transition, persistence, and completion programs
  • Experience working with and developing models that support families
  • Familiarity with current literature and ideas about first-generation students and college success
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport with funders, school and college officials, and students and their families
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literacy, especially with Word and Excel; familiarity with databases

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of five years of experience in high school or college admissions, scholarship management, guidance, advising, and/or college transition support

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of Downeast Maine
  • Experience with student case management, advising, and student success

POSITION CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Work Environment

  • Primarily office or remote work environment
  • On-site school and home visits

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods in a stationary position at desk using a computer and keyboard

Travel Requirements

  • Regular travel to homes and schools in Hancock and Washington counties
  • Regular travel to partner colleges in Southern Maine and Massachusetts
  • Occasional travel to major funders and conferences in and out of state
  • Occasional evening, weekend, and overnight events; availability to students in off hours
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van with individuals in the vehicle
Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Facilitate recruitment activities and selection of students for the Davis Maine Scholarship
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with selected students and their families through individual case management and family meetings from the time students are selected up through their college graduation
  • Implement retreats, workshops, trips, and events for Davis Maine Scholars, potential Davis Maine Scholars, and their families
  • Work with supervisor and marketing team to produce the Davis Maine Scholarship Celebration
  • Develop and implement a peer mentoring program for current Scholars
  • Develop and implement an alumni program for Davis Maine Scholars
  • Collaborate with EdGE Secondary Youth Development Coordinators to create opportunities for Davis Maine Scholars to interact with Mission Scholars and Journey participants, when appropriate
  • Serve as a team member and resource for the Mission’s college preparation and transition programs
  • Manage program expenses as directed by supervisor
  • Collaborate as needed with the Mission’s marketing team to produce appropriate PR materials including photographs, newsletter and Bulletin stories, social media posts, and website updates
  • Represent the Davis Maine Scholarship program with partners and external audiences, as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
