OVERVIEW

We are seeking a person who genuinely wants to care and support people. Detailed below is the job description for the position. Reporting to: the Carer Team Supervisor/Team Leader

I) RESIDENTS:

  1. To respond to residents in a respectful manner
  2. To maintain residents dignity, privacy and independence
  3. To make yourself familiar with the needs of all the needs of the residents (care file)
  4. To enable, support and empower each resident to reach and maintain their full potential

  5. To support residents to maintain the life style of their choosing
  6. To carry out tasks which have been delegated to you
  7. To contribute to the assessment of residents’ needs, contribute to the development and review of the care file and plans
  8. To monitor and supervise residents to ensure their needs are met (without invading their privacy)
  9. To provide a high standard of personal care and support; this may include social activities, intimate care, incontinence, confusion, behaviours, dying etc.)
  10. To respond professionally and supportively to any visitor

Responsibilities

A) JOB PURPOSE:

  1. To assist in the provision of a high standard of person centred care
  2. To support and enable residents to live the life style of their choosing
  3. To provide a service which upholds residents rights
  4. To ensure that all services are provided which maintains the residents dignity
  5. To work as part of a team to achieve required standards
  6. To be involved in the general activities of the Care Centre.
    B) Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

GENERAL LIST OF DUTIES/TASKS

· Assisting with personal care: washing, bathing, dressing, shaving, hair, nails, feet oral health (cleaning of teeth/dentures)
· Assisting with toilet or continence requirements (as per the assessed individual needs of each resident)
· Supporting/taking client/s out to local vicinity/shops/park/etc
· Nutritional/hydration requirements; assisting to eat and drink (including recording in-take if any risk is present)
· Provision of meals safely into client’s rooms
· Preparing and serving meals outside of mealtimes as and when requested
· Providing refreshments throughout the day as and when requested
· Laundry duties and care of clothes and personal belongings
· Sweeping and mopping of floors (in the event of spillages or as necessary outside of domestic assistant hours)
· Making and changing of beds (ensuring clean fresh linen at each use)
· Assisting clients to communicate with family and friends; letters, email cards etc..
· Supporting people who may require it, with social interactions and activities
· Recording relevant data as instructed by CTM, TL or Manager
· Liaising with family, friends and advocates as requested
· Assisting professional visitors as requested
· Attend to nurse call (buzzer) as applicable throughout the day – NB. Can only be disarmed at point of contact/call point (NOT AT THE BOARD)
