Description

The Day Camp Assistant Counselor is responsible for assisting the Lead Counselor in implementing and facilitating daily activities and lessons of the Summer Day Camp program. The Assistant Counselor guides the social development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching and healthy learning environment. The Assistant Counselor helps ensure the safety of all participants and direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp setting. The Assistant Counselor is expected to create positive and nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, all focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
The Day Camp Assistant Counselor must have the competencies, skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the YMCA mission, goals, and visions for serving the community. The Assistant Counselor will be responsible for the following:

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/REQUISITE COMPUTER SKILLS:

  1. Supports the facilitation of purposeful and engaging activities that complement the program’s thematic agenda and meet program quality and fidelity.
  2. Follows program curriculum in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
  3. Provides careful, attentive supervision, alert at all times.
  4. Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior, and understands positive youth development approaches to the academic and social development of youth.
  5. Facilitates a programming environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
  6. Maintains a 2:20 ratio throughout the enrichment portion of the day.
  7. Ensures the safety and engagement of all children.
  8. Proactively manages classroom behavior.
  9. Set up for and cleans up after all classroom activities.
    Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
    Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
