Job Title: Day Camp Assistant Site Coordinator    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt   Job Type: Part-Time    Reports to: Day Camp Director   Now hiring for summer 2026! We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.    Essential Functions   * Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with parents, employees, other agencies, school district employees, the public and others  * Maintains working knowledge of youth development and Lake Superior Day Camp best practices  * Provides direct service and management of school aged youth in the program and builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and guardians while helping them connect with each other and the YMCA. * Works independently and as a member of a team  * Maintains enthusiasm, patience, creativity, and a commitment to working with children  * Supports program design and the day camp schedule  * Implements program themes, schedule, and activities  * Assists in supervision and staff development  * Ensures risk management concepts are upheld  * Builds and maintains communication and relationships with students and families * Assists with attendance and tracking   * Attends staff meetings and trainings as required  * Relays important information and messages to direct supervisor  * Attends regular check-in meetings with direct supervisor  * Fosters an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace. Meaningfully participate in and lead efforts to support the Y’s commitment to equity and diversity. * Follows YMCA and State Certification procedures to manage risk for the program. * Oversee behavior management of participants and follows program behavior rubric. * Conducts required evaluation and tracking of program data along with uses tools for continuous program improvement. * Provides general office support to Day Camp Director, with duties as assigned. * Support the state certification paperwork, requirement, and site visit preparation. * Help in recruitment efforts for staffing.  * Other duties as assigned YMCA Competencies    * Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Y’s values. Supervisory Responsibility   Supervises several staff, volunteers and AmeriCorps members on site when Day Camp Director is absent.      Work Environment   Day Camp is held in a variety of community and Y locations. These locations include the YMCA at the Essentia Wellness Center and the North Star Academy, local hiking trails, outdoor parks, Y locations, and other indoor and outdoor environments. All day camp staff will encounter uneven walking conditions and a variety of weather conditions.       Physical Demands   The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   * Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff   * Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques   * Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques   * Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior  * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  * Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers   * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds  * Operates with daily exposure to the sun and heat and exposure to various animals, plants, and environmental conditions  * Occasionally sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work   The Day Camp Assistant Site Coordinator is a part-time and seasonal position that serves during the summer months (June through August).       Travel   Travel to different community and Y locations will generally be conducted by local bus company. There may be times that Day Camp Assistant Site Coordinator will be required to use a Y vehicle. The Day Camp Assistant Site Coordinator may be required to travel to different Y locations/program sites in their own vehicle, depending on schedule or work.      Required Education and Experience   * High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree in field related to youth and families * CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training (must receive within 60 days)   * Previous camp experience preferred * Ability to accompany campers to main program areas, lead small and large group activities, supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities, demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served, interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately model behavior.   * Ability to communicate with parents maturely and effectively  * Commitment of supporting principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action to achieve a diverse work environment * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with caregivers, employees, school district employees, and public agencies * Knowledge and commitment to the mission, goals, philosophy of the program  * Ability to adhere to the laws and policies governing the program * Working knowledge of youth development and Day Camp best practices  * Excellent organizational and communication skills  * Ability to handle behavior issues with youth   * Ability to focus on multiple activities concurrently * Ability to work independently and as a member of a team  Additional Eligibility Qualifications   * Must be able to pass a Minnesota DHS Netstudy2.0 background study  EEO Statement   The Lake Superior YMCA (the Y) provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regards to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
