Camp Counselors provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and are actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experience success.  2. Assist each camper with meeting personal goals and those established by the camp for camper development. 3. Follow established procedures for supervising camper health and enforcing all safety regulations.  4. Maintain health, safety, cleanliness in program areas.  5. Identify and report any potential risks.  6. Follow established health and safety standards of the YMCA, and Dept. of Public Health. 7. Supervise campers throughout daily activities and ensure program areas are safe for current activities. 8.  Take and maintain attendance throughout the day.  9. Support activity specialists when attending activities with one’s group.  10. Assist the pool staff and lifeguards with maintaining safety during swim activities.  11. Actively participate in staff training, meetings, etc.  12. Help out with all camp activities and participate as a member of the camp staff team.  13. Demonstrate/teach the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility with all campers and staff.  14. Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.  15. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.  16. Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.  17. Capable to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.  18. Submit all required paperwork on time.  19. Perform other duties as assigned. 20.  Attend all Camp Counselor trainings and orientation   QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Prior camp staff experience or equivalent experience preferred  2. At least 16 years old (by June 15th)  3. Ability and experience in supervising children  4. Desire and ability to work in a camp setting  5. Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable 6. Ability to understand and follow directions  Positive attitude and ability to build and or work as a cohesive team  7. Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications (will be provided if needed)     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: * Must be able to work in fast paced environment that requires patience, focus and diligence.  * Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time during summer conditions.  * Meet strength and lifting requirements of 25lbs.  * See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
