Flower Pots Day Nursery is currently seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our nursery’s kitchen. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will be responsible for various tasks related to food preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness in compliance with hygiene standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the well-being and nutrition of our young learners.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare meals and snacks in accordance with established menus, recipes, and portion sizes.
  • Assist in serving meals and snacks to children and staff, ensuring proper food handling and presentation.
  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment, including washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, and handling waste disposal.
  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the management team to manage dietary requirements and provide appropriate meals for children with specific needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of food and supplies inventory, assisting with stock control and ordering as necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining kitchen equipment and reporting any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of menus, taking into account nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions.
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a catering environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, including proper handling, storage, and preparation of food.
  • Understanding of dietary requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.
