L'Arche welcomes Assistants to live, work, and learn together with adults with developmental disabilities in our communities. We strive to shape a more human and just society by offering people of different abilities an experience of companionship, community, and belonging. We're looking to welcome a Day Program Assistant.  This is a temporary 6-month position (32.5 hours per week).   Position Overview The Day Program Assistant supports individuals with developmental disabilities (Core Members) in the day program. This role involves assisting the Core Members in all aspects of the day program, including personal care, health and safety, social and emotional support, and program activities. The Day Program Assistant fosters a supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment that promotes dignity of every person, nurtures everyone’s gifts, and builds mutual relationships. Key Responsibilities  Relationship & Atmosphere * Build respectful and mutual relationships with Core Members (e.g., listening with empathy, providing emotional support and encouragement, sharing stories and activities together). * Foster a welcoming and inclusive day program atmosphere that reflects the personality and preferences of all day program members. * Encourage active participation in the day program. Program Planning & Documentation * Assist in developing and implementing program plans and behavioral support plans. * Support Core Members to build and maintain skills and gifts to promote personal growth, independence and contribution to the day program and community. * Support Core Members in making decisions about their activities in the day program, maximizing their choices and participation. * Maintain accurate documentation in all areas as directed: financial, medical, log notes, medication, incident reports, assessments, etc. Personal Care & Program Activities * Provide respectful assistance with all aspects of daily living: hygiene, eating, mobility, etc. * Support Core Members in programs and activities which are suitable for the Core Members. For example, artistic expressions, volunteer opportunities, leisure activities, and local community involvement. Health & Safety * Observe and report changes in health, behaviors, and well-being. * Administer medication. * Respond to emergencies and provide First Aid when needed. * Accompany Core Members when they need to go to the hospital. * Be knowledgeable about and adhere to all safety and emergency procedures. * Promote a safe environment by identifying and reporting hazards and taking immediate action when necessary. Other Duties * Fulfill other duties as required to support Core Members and the functioning of day program. Qualifications and Experience Required: * Grade 12 or equivalent * Driver’s license and driving experience * Acceptable Police Information Check that includes the Vulnerable Sector Check Preferred: * Certificate in Community Support Work, Disability Studies, Social Services, Health Care Aide, or related field * Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in L'Arche Edmonton's Day Program. Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 3:15pm
