Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Day Service Facilitator works together with the staff team to develop and implement appropriate recreational, social, and educational programming which incorporates the needs, interests and preferences of the members through individual or group activities. The incumbent will be required to provide emotional and physical support along with crisis intervention as needed.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Safety
- Ensure that members and staff work in a safe environment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations are being adhered to by all, including but not limited to, emergency evacuation procedures, vehicle usage, transportation of members, working alone, food, medications and equipment, storage and maintenance.
- Answer door and telephone during shift using proper precautions.
- Provide crisis intervention for members as required.
- Ensure an active watch over both the members and the facility through the course of regular duties.
- Understand and promote members’ rights and responsibilities.
- Provide transportation to and from various locations while demonstrating safe driving skills.
- Follow all traffic laws while driving defensively to ensure safety.
- Report concerns promptly to Director as needed.
• Ensure proper lifting, twisting and reaching techniques are used during job performance. • Remain alert and awake at all times, throughout all shifts.
- Use PPE provided when necessary
- Health and Medical
- Ensure individual’s health and medical needs are accurately attended to in a timely fashion including personal care where needed, and that all medication is properly administered and recorded.
- Recognize and report concerns of abuse or neglect.
- Provide emotional support for members as required.
- Ensure meals and snacks are varied, attractive, nutritionally, and calorically adequate for the dietary and medical requirements of each member as recommended in the current Canadian Dietary Standard.
- Person Centred Plans
- Be involved in implementing individual plans.
- Communicate necessary information, observations and concerns with the Director.
- Provide individuals with support by gathering information on an individual’s goals and desired outcomes.
- Individual Personal Development
- Encourage and assist each individual to participate in daily activities in their program and
community environments including reinforcing all expectations.
- Ensure that the environment of the program is supportive, nurturing, and encourages a high degree of member involvement including decision making.
- Role model appropriate behaviour and attitude supporting growth and promoting independence for the members.
- Public Relations and Communication
- Develop opportunities for relationships with families and the community and assist individuals’ to develop positive social interactions.
- Ensure all contact with others is courteous and professional.
- Treat all members and other staff with respect and dignity at all times.
- Program Development
- Collaboratively create, manage and facilitate appropriate individual and group activities, special events and spiritual care programs according to member interest, skill and ability levels.
- Promote social interaction and personal development.
• Ensure all necessary components and any required documentation is completed for assigned activities. • Participate in ongoing program assessment, review and evaluation of all programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completed high school, grade 12 or the equivalent
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable
- Valid Manitoba Class 5F driver license
- Certified Winnipeg Police or RCMP Criminal record check including Vulnerable Sector completed
- Province of Manitoba Child Abuse Registry check
• Province of Manitoba Adult Abuse Registry check Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements • Suitable candidates may be hired without previous experience; however, prior related experience will be considered an asset on hiring. Skills and Capabilities
- Occasional to moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping
- Occasional to moderate amounts of physical care (including manual or assisted transfers)
- Moderate lifting/packing of member belongings or program supplies
- Frequent standing, sitting, walking, & reaching

- Occasional use of physical behaviour intervention techniques

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.67 to $22.09 with a maximum of $26.51.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
