JOB SUMMARY

The Childcare and Aboriginal Head Start Manager reports directly to the Director of Education and Language and is primarily responsible for ensuring the Nak’azdli Whut’en Childcare Centre consistently fulfills its mission and meets its organizational goals. This includes overseeing the development and successful implementation of the Head Start program.
The Childcare and Head Start Manager plays a leadership role in establishing and executing a long-term strategic plan that aligns with the Centre’s mission, ensuring steady progress toward identified goals. Key responsibilities include program development, effective administration, and the optimal management of staff, resources, and finances. The Childcare and Aboriginal Head Start Manager will also provide financial oversight by preparing and managing budgets, and supporting the Centre’s long-term fiscal planning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Child Development, Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a licensed childcare facility, including leadership or management responsibilities.
  • Effective leadership skills with a focus on mentoring, motivation, and team development.
  • Demonstrated success in managing partnerships and key stakeholder relationships.
  • Strategic problem-solving and the ability to overcome internal and external challenges creatively.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant federal and provincial childcare legislation.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by Indigenous communities and childcare programs.
  • Strong fiscal management skills, including experience creating and managing complex budgets.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices, policies, and employment law.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Strong integrity, confidentiality, and accountability in handling sensitive information.
  • Proven ability in conflict resolution, negotiation, and staff management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
